KALYANI: Pailan Arrows – the talented developmental side of the All India Football Federation – will aim for another spirited performance when they meet a resurgent Salgaocar SC in the 25th round of the I-League at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday (April 20).
“We will be following the system and form put in place by Arthur (Papas) and the boys are talented enough to understand what will be their task against their upcoming opponents,” said Aaron Symons, the assistant coach of Arrows. The Arrows chief coach Arthur Papas is on leave giving Symons the task of guiding the side against the Goa giant.
“Salgaocar are an interesting team. They are very organized and have the confidence of a big win (beating United Sikkim 9-0) in the previous round. We will have to give our best to see a successful result tomorrow. We have a full side and there are no major worries with injuries,” Symons said.
“Our team is made of talented youngsters who are always eager to prove themselves. Playing well and getting a win will be their motivation. It doesn’t really matter if the tournament is nearing the end,” Symons said about his team’s approach. Pailan Arrows have 23 points from as many matches.
“Pailan Arrows are a young and fighting side. They play as a cohesive unit as it was evident in the way they beat Dempo (2-0) couple of matches ago. They are a youth side but we have to respect their fighting spirit,” Peter Vales the Salgaocar coach said. Salagaocar have released Englishman David Booth giving Vales the charge of the team.
“We have no injury problems and have a balanced side. Our captain Luciano (Sabrosa) has been with the side for quite some time and he has a good understanding with the team which is an additional advantage for us,” Vales said.
Salgaocar have remained unbeaten in the last six rounds where they picked up five wins and a draw to rise to the seventh spot in the standings with 30 points from 24 matches.
