PANAJI: Pune FC coach Derrick Pereia has emerged as the overwhelming favourite to replace David Booth at Salgaocar Football Club for the next season.
Booth has already quit the club and left for home, although there were still two matches left to be played and a few days to complete his contract. The Salgaocar FC coach, who sparked aremarkable turnaround at the club, was apparently angered after the club fell back on its assurances and decided not to renew his contract.
"I don't know where I will be going next. I have worked all over the world so I'm prepared to go anywhere. I've got a lot of contacts," Booth said after his team thrashed United Sikkim FC 9-0 at the Tilak Maidan in Vasco.
Incidentally, it was Salgaocar's biggest victory in the I-League but was also Booth's last game in charge. Peter Valles, the team's technical director, has now been handed charge and will call the shots for the remainder of the two games against Pailan Arrows (April 20) and Dempo Sports Club (May 12).
"Once the decision (not to hand him a contract extension) was conveyed to Booth, he decided it was best to leave. We have fulfilled all our contractual obligations," Salgaocar secretary RAJ Gomes told TOI on Thursday.
Gomes, incidentally, has accompanied the team to Kolkata since Booth and manager Sanjeev Nagvenkar --- due to personal reasons -- would not be available.
