VASCO: Churchill Brothers president Churchill Alemao, whose team won the I-League title for the second time and claimed a cash prize of Rs 70 lakh, wants the purse to be raised to Rs five crore.

Players will now start demanding a better contract, incentives and then there is the pressure of retaining a champion team, he said.

"The prize money which we got is not enough to cover one of the top player's cost," said Alemao who has raised the salary of the players in Goa but is now feeling the pinch.

"Leading teams in the I-League spend anywhere between Rs 12-16 crore annually and I feel that AIFF should enhance the winners prize money to Rs 5 crore which will go a long way to cover up the team's expenditure," Alemao stated.

Alemao predicted better days ahead for Indian football and felt the possible direct entry of two new clubs in the I-League could be a game-changer.

"We need more corporates to enter the fray. We need more teams, more benefactors and more sponsors," Alemao said while admitting that he was finding it difficult to sustain a high profile team with each passing year.
