All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has reduced the quota for foreign players in A division teams for the new Nepali football season that begins from April 14 (Baisakh 1, 2070 BS). ANFA took the decision on Friday after holding a meeting with representatives from A division clubs.

As per the decision, an A division club can sign only four foreign players and field only three during a match in the new season. Until the previous season, a club could register five foreign players and field four of them during a match.

"There will be only 14 A division teams in the new season compared to 16 in the previous season. There won´t be scarcity of players in this season due to fewer teams, therefore we have reduced the quota for foreign players," said Lalit Krishna Shrestha, the vice-president of ANFA and the president of Three Star Club. "Besides this, more Nepali players will get chance to play in top-tier football."

According to a press statement issued by ANFA, the registration for new players will also begin from April 14. Similarly, ANFA will organize a knockout football tournament in the Nepali month of Jestha (May-June). A club can register players until 24 hours prior to its first match of the knockout tournament. A team must register at least 16 players prior to its first match.

Similarly, the meeting has set April 28 as the deadline for registering clubs at ANFA.

There will be 14 A division teams in the new season. The recently concluded season featured 16 teams, of which three -- Bauddha, Bansbari and Madhyapur Youth Association -- were relegated at the end of first round, while B division champion Boys Union Club was promoted to A division.
