GANGTOK: With no further hopes of avoiding relegation, United Sikkim FC just have three more matches at hand to salvage some pride from their debut season in I-League. They take on Sporting Clube De Goa at Paljor Stadium, in Gangtok, on Sunday (April 21) and hope to give something to cheer for the home supporters.

United Sikkim are languishing at the bottom of the table with only 15 points from 23 matches and as head coach Nathan Hall concedes: “There are no mathematical chances to avoid relegation. But, we will give our best and try to end the season on a high.”

Having conceded nine goals in their last away match against Salgaocar, the United Sikkim coach said players are determined to bounce back.

“There is still lot of fight left in us. There are three matches left and we have to do a good job for the club and fans. Since the future is uncertain, the players have few matches left to show their capability to other I-League clubs and get contracts for the next season”, said Hall.

United Sikkim have all their players available for Sunday’s tie.

Meanwhile, Sporting Clube De Goa are eyeing full three points to consolidate their standing among the upper half of I-League. The club is in a good run having lost only one match in three months.

“We are fully prepared for the match. We want to get three full points though our opponents would give a tough challenge in their home ground. We want to finish the I-League campaign among the top six clubs”, said head coach Oscar Bruzon.

The Goan side had reached Gangtok on Tuesday to get acclimatized to cold conditions of the hill town.

“We came early so the players could acclimatize to the weather conditions here, he said.
Sporting Clube De Goa are missing some players for Sunday’s match but the coach is not attaching too much importance to that. “I am confident that other players would respond to the challenge,” he signed off.
